Really Confused. Really Would Like Help!

<p>Hi guys,</p>

<p>So I am a business/economics student and I applied to be a transfer student for sophomore more (next year. I am a freshmen).</p>

<p>My high school grades were horrible and my professor recs weren't the best, but eventually I got into Emory University. </p>

<p>Now I know that Emory is a great school for business, but in my recent freshmen year, I got heavily involved in crew (rowing). Now I absolutely love it and I would really like the opportunity to compete on a higher level of competition. Unfortunately, Emory only offers a club team and not an athletic team. </p>

<p>And unfortunately, the schools that are really good in both rowing and business/economics tend to be UC Berkeley or the ivies. :( I applied to Penn, Brown, and Yale but was rejected to all three.</p>

<p>At my current institution (a top 40 school), I received a 4.0 for both semesters of college. So I do think that my chances would be much better next year. I was wondering if you guys thought that I should take the opportunity at Emory or risk staying at my current school for another year in hopes of transferring to another school. My biggest worry is not getting in anywhere next year AND being rejected by Emory (because I didn't take their offer this year).</p>

<p>I understand that junior year transfers do not have their HS grades as impacted as much and that ACT/SATs don't really matter too much. But even with a 4.0 college GPA, schools with the top rowing programs and business programs are extremely competitive.</p>

<p>Do you think I'm letting rowing dictate too much of my life? Or should I seize this opportunity at Emory?</p>

<p>Yes and yes.</p>

<p>any other opinions?</p>

<p>If this helps, I’ve been doing a little thinking and here’s the “pro and pro” list. I am mainly looking at brown and penn</p>

<p>Brown/Penn (meaning staying at my current institution at the risk of not getting into Brown, Penn or Emory):
-Brown has an amazing BEO program (Business, Entrepreneurship, and Organizations). I am interested in studying business mixed with psychology. As for Penn… well it’s Wharton obviously. Or I would studying economics with psychology at CAS.
-Stronger, more elite connections (as in alumni network)?
-Has business organizations involved in case study competitions and business plan competitions
-More liberal, LGBT friendly. Not too greek heavy (or if there is, good greek-nongreek relations). You don’t have to be a sporty, beef-head to fit in.
-Very good men’s crew team. Competes at the most competitive races in the country
-No +/- system in GPA grading (getting an A is 90%). Can pass/fail major required courses at Brown for credit</p>

<p>Emory:
-Goizueta Business School = top 5 in the nation according to Bloomberg!
-Bigger connections (I think it has more people)?
-The women’s crew club division is pretty good… (I am a coxswain. I steer the boat. SO I can be on the women’s team if it is a club and not athletic team) ranked on club crew teams for Dad Vails and does OK at head of the charles (international race)
-Still a very good school and I might not get in next year.</p>

<p>What do you all think?</p>

<p>anyone else? :(</p>
