Really Need ADvice about my concentration : ISOM

As you know, ISOM is combination of IS - Information Systems and OM - Operation Management in business school.

I am a junior now and found hard to find a summer internship in this area. I'm passionate about Technology and how to use technology to solve business problems. My career goals is to become hired as a professional in technology side such as System Analyst or Network Security. I feel like I do not have the technical skills enough to compete with IT or IS major in computer science. Moreover, I dont care about OM, what I care is just how to use technology for solving business problems.

MY questions are Am I in the right major? If not, how to fix it? should I take double degree by taking another major in Computer science? or should I follow my parents idea by taking Accounting Major since I like numbers?

I really need your advice. I do not know the path to get my dream careers.

Thank you

I think it depends on your school and how heavily IS students are recruited. I would check with career services about starting salaries (perhaps posted on internet) and also hiring companies and positions.

Do you have to take many OM classes that other business majors do not have to take? If so, that’s a bit of a waste. It would probably be helpful if your posted the curriculum.

The good thing about the technology field is that you can get a job on the side that would give you as much or more experience than a summer internship (such as working for the school itself).

Computer Science courses wouldn’t hurt (unless they hurt your GPA. However, I wouldn’t do the dual major unless it was a last resort and you knew there weren’t opportunities out of ISOM but were out of CS.
