Really need help with college search

Hey guys,

I am starting my college search now.

I will be a junior next year

I don't know how to start. Can you guys suggest some schools for me ?

I want to major in Economics and need a lot of FA ( I am an international student from Vietnam but attending a high school in US)

Here are my stats:

My GPA last academic year was 9.2/10 ( My country's score scale is 10, "A" score starts from 8.0)

My Average score this year: 98/100 ( taking AP Cal AB, English 11, Chemistry, Choir, Bible, US History)

Leadership: Head of School's Youth Union:From Grade 10

If you are going to be a Junior NEXT year how are you stating awards of Grade 11? -_-

I will be a repeat junior. I am junior this year but since I move to a new school, they want me to do Junior year again

And why exactly is that, mate?

They just said that they thought it would be the best for me to be a junior again next year. Thus, I will have more college options.

However, I still want to start searching for colleges now to start preparing for it

ah that sucks!

Well I cant really tell you about Colleges until I see your SAT scores. I would suggest start preparing for SAT. Also, look around on Princeton Review and College Board for college with your interest of major. I did that too initially.

Good Luck, mate! :)

I did some researches on Princeton Review and College Board.

I want some personal opinions so that it will be easier to discuss. Those searching tools still have some limits and some points I don't really like

what do you want in a college? location? size? atmosphere?
the only thing you mentioned was a strong economics departement. and there are myriad univs who have that. also as ajayc said, it's hard to suggest colleges without knowing your SAT scores...

And considering the fact that you need a LOT of aid, your options are comparatively narrow just like every other aid seeking applicant. But I wouldn't lose hope :)

So I would suggest you start preparing for SAT and completely kill it!

What SAT score should I aim for to have a good shot for even Ivy League and top 20 schools ?

I prefer urban and suburban schools. I don't really like super huge school also. I don't care about those facts a lot unless I get into more than one schools.

I only really care now about FA and the program's quality

To get a good shot at very competetive schools, SAT is only one part of the equation. Though, never underrate SATs. I somehow did so, and I do feel a tinge of regret for that. But, past is past.

Aim for 2200s. The higher the better. And, if you wanna even get admitted to your wanna-be colleges, take SAT subject tests too (but in your senior year coz u won't have studied the required topics until then). Try reading and writing college essays from now on if you can. They'll help you a lot better.

You can take your repeat junior classes as a boon. I believe you have already taken most of the courses offered by your new school when you were studying in your old one. So, bring out your passionate side to the front: try and engage in music, sports or other activites you are passionate about. Take an internship and even jobs.

I'd take PSAT (Practice SAT), if I were you. You still have 2 years before you go to college. So, give the PSAT to know where you stand. You'll' get your comparative SAT score. or you can directly take the SAT if ou are confident. Once you get your score, you can start to choose colleges. Right know, just chill out. Utilize your time and challenge yourself.

Bright days will come ahead :)

Thanks guys.

I think I have to crank up again on SAT again.

What schools do you guys suggest me if I have around 2100-2200 on SAT and with my stats like above ?
