I'm a first-year student at Michigan and It's been all right so far but I need to do laundry. I live in West Quad so if anyone can tell me the closest place to buy detergent, basket, stuff like that. It would be much appreciated.

White's Market might have it. If you go down State St. towards MLB/Mason, it's to the left on E. William St. I don't guarantee they sell it, but White's Market is a good place to know either way. If they don't, just walk down State St. a bit to find a store that does sell it, or go to the Union possibly (and get overcharged up the ass).

the Union doesn't sell detergent

Go to White's Market. Open till 7 on weekdays.

i hate west quad so far. i wish i lived in south.

White's Market is probably closest for you. Also, Village Corner is at South U and South Forest and has stuff. Strickland's is off of Observatory and closest to people on the Hill.

forgiven, I'm sure you could find someone to room swap with you to be in West. Maybe not for South -- but one of the Hill dorms.

there's no way i'm moving all my stuff from west to hill.. haha.

anyways, i don't even know how to do laundry yet. i'm so screwed.

"know how"? It's not like you have to go down to a river with a skillet and grate your clothes against it while panning for gold....

Anyway, I'm in West Quad. I even used the machines today. It's all pretty straight forward. You put your stuff in them, and you pay.

you wanna do it for me? :]

I know some of the in-dorm retail places have it (i.e. Markley Hideaway, East Quad's Halfway Inn). Check Cafe ConXion or whatever, it should be in South Quad.

You might consider ordering some Charlie's Soap laundry powder (search on the name; you'll find the website). It only takes a tablespoon to do a load, so you don't have to haul much to the laundry room. $12 will get you a small bag that will do 80 loads. My dryer has been on the fritz so I've been hauling my pathetic self to Mr. Stadium regularly to do our laundry, and I have really appreciated NOT having to lug a big heavy gallon of my usual liquid detergent around. I think it works very well, although you do have to pre-treat stains.

Forgiven, if you really need help, there's a service that does laundry for you. I remember getting a paper ad but I threw it out. There's a fixed price for a semester of service or you can pay for a one-time service.
