really want an ivy league

I'm a sophmore with a 3.5 gpa unweighted so far. I have done tons of community service. I have volunteered with my family for the haiti earthquake. I worked at a toddler learning center. I am president of my women's leadership club. Part of key club and multicultural. I have been a mathlete and entered many competitions including knowledge masters in which my team ranked 1st in ny state last year(still proud). Taking pre calc honors, english 10 honors, chem honors, ap american, spanish 11 honors, research project seminar and orchaestra. I am doing research at a professional lab this summer and last year i worked at a dna lab and i attended the leadamerica medicine and healthcare conference. I play the harp and piano. My main instrument is the harp and I have played many gigs. got into cty but i didn't go because my parents are paranoid freaks of nature and i was kind of scared too lol. Do you think I have a chance? I got a 224 on the psat without studying and I've been getting all this stuff from colleges including brown, duke, columbia etc. Many people say that because I'm african-american I will have a better chance but I would hate for affirmative action to be the only reason I would get in

Your URM status will help you a lot, but seeing your credentials, it’s definitely not going to be the deciding factor. Your PSAT score is phenomenal, if you can get a SAT to 2300 (seeing how you’ll have an opportunity to study over the summer), you’ll be in great shape. And you’ll want to take SAT IIs for the Ivy schools too. Your ECs are also amazing, the only thing I’d work on improving is your GPA.

But honestly, it’s only your sophomore year. Enjoy life a little bit more before getting all antsy about college admissions. Just focus on doing well in school, instead of just trying to meet requirements for colleges.

Yea. I’m going to take 3 sat 2s this year. thanks

Yes, you have a very good shot at the Ivies. URM will be a deciding factor but only because you have such good grades and EC’s. If you didn’t have those, they wouldn’t care if you are a URM or not. Best of luck!

Yeah youll get into most of those being african american +NMF
