So im currently a junior right now but I have been recently watching a lot of videos about people getting into UNC Chappel Hill and I’m having serious doubts about my chances. Most of the people in the video had a higher GPA than I did as well as better Extracirriculars. I was just curious if I still have a shot even though it seems my numbers are lower than those who got accepted. Here are my stats:
GPA: 4.29 (W) 3.75(UW)
SAT: 1500
SAT Essay Score: 8/6/6
Extracirrculars: Involved in community service from ninth grade to eleventh grade (volunteered for local town council, in key club and NHS, volunteered for the YMCA, and volunteered for faith based community) and I have an internship set for this summer.
Edit: I also live in North Carolina (don’t know if that changes my chances of getting in or not).
living in NC definitely helps ur chances a lot but it is still pretty competitive. Your SAT is definitely awesome so that will really help- the only thing is your unweighted GPA. UNC cares a little too much about whether you are in the top ten percent of your class… Also, what county do you live in- typically Wake and Mecklenburg are much more competitive. If you could get your gpa/rank up i’d say you have a very good shot. +keep up the extra curriculars
Update: So it looks like my GPA will go down this semester. If I end up with a 4.21 W and 3.67 UW by the end of the year do I still have a shot? Also yes, I live in Wake Co.
@SeanK777 - Don’t stress out! And don’t be so set on one school. Put in your best effort at school, and understand there are things you cannot control, like class rank, which DO have an impact. Use this summer to complete your essays and statements, so the application process is less stressful. Good Luck!
