reapplying after being waitlisted

One consultant told me that if you reapply to a school that waitlisted you. You have a higher chance of getting in under the circumstances that you have similar scores and ecs.

I doubt it. what do you think?

I think it would really depend on what they’re looking for in the upcoming year. I would think if you added a bit more or strengthened what was already on your app it would help significantly. Also, if you show more independence, that should definitely help.

I think it would help your chances a lot, because I like to think of waitlisting as you would have been accepted if there was more space. That may be an overly simplified explanation, but whatever. You can work on things, and have an even better application the next year. Plus you’re showing the school how dedicated you are by applying again.

@samantha that was exactly wat I was thinking!!

haha oh i hope you guys are right in that it’ll help  i’m reapplying to 3 of the 5 schools that waitlisted me last year.

me too but only one

First of all, I would like to congratulate all of you who are going through the process again, either if you were wait listed or rejected. Not only does the application process take time out of your academic and social life, but it can be quite stressful as well. So, kudos to everyone who to reapplying. I personally believe that it takes guts to do so.

When you’re waitlisted, do the notifications come at the same time as the acceptances or the rejections? 'Cuz for most schools the acceptances are FedExed or whatever and come exactly on March 10th, while the rejections are by snail mail.

Only acceptances are Fedexed.

i got waitlists and rejections last year on the 10th. except for one school which i got on the 11th! But yes, only acceptances are fedexed.

I got waitlisted last year (I was a late applicant though, so there were definitely different circumstances) but I am reapplying. Both schools I applied to strongly suggested that I apply again because they just didn’t have any more space. So I suppose it really depends on the circumstances.

Also, reapplying gives students a second chance to strengthen their application. At this point they have a better idea of what the school wants to hear.

I say good luck to everyone who has the strength to do it all over again!
