Does anyone have any experience in how schools treat an applicant who applied, got in, but then decided not to attend but to stay at a public high school? DD is in this position and is wondering if she can try to reapply for tenth grade or if the schools will be mad at her.

I think the school would be curious about the reasoning behind the decision, as am I. I do not see why they would be mad at you, though.

I think you would need to have a pretty valid reason, but I think they would be willing to hear you out and try to understand your situation. Particularly because you turned them down for a home school (and not another prep school), I would think they would consider her on the same basis as another applicant.

I don’t have any experience with this but as long as you were timely in letting them know she wouldn’t attend I can’t see why they would be prejudiced against your application. Since she was accepted once she should be a competitive applicant the second time. I would be sure to explain the reason for staying at the current school and not enrolling.

If the reason she turned them down is because she didn’t think she was ready to go away to school, I don’t see why they would think twice about it.

Write essays about her maturation during that one year.
