If you are already a UMD student (arts and letters), but get denied admission into the Smith school, say, after your freshman year, are you able to reapply at a later time? Thanks.

Yes, you can apply as an internal transfer after earning 45 credits. If accepted, you would begin after your 60th credit. So, basically you apply after fall semester of your sophomore year and then start in Smith as a junior. You need to have at least a 3.0 to apply. That however is the minimum and I highly doubt that a 3.0 would gain you admittance. It is really very competitive. Also, the 45 credits must be credits earned in college. Any AP credits from high school don’t count towards that. If you plan on applying as an internal transfer, I would recommend trying to get the highest GPA possible and also maybe joining one of the business clubs or getting an internship in some sort of business field. But by far the biggest thing will be your GPA. When transferring you can also list Shady Grove as something you are interested in. It is still competitive there, but easier to get in bc most people want CP. They offer 4 business majors at SG and are taught by the same faculty. It is located in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area of Montgomery County which is roughly 45 minutes away from CP. Finally, I would make sure you have a back up major in mind in case you don’t get in. Many people do Econ.
Good luck to you!
