Dear College Confidential Members,

It has always been my "DREAM" to attend New York University Stern School of Business. Therefore, I applied EARLY DECISION to New York University Stern School of Business as an incoming Freshman for Fall 2008. During the early decision process I attended an interview and was required to write two additional essays for the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program and The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (Minority Programs). As a result, I was declined from the two programs and rejected from New York University Stern School of Business. I have no idea why they offered these two programs if I am not a minority. My ethnicity is Spanish (Europe) and Portuguese. So in Fall 2008, I attended Fordham University College of Business Administration. So far I have done exceptionally well at Fordham University, potentially scoring an A to B+ in my first semester classes. But I would love to fulfill my dreams and attend New York University Stern School of Business. The question now is do I have a chance for acceptance at New York University Stern School of Business as an incoming Sophomore, Fall 2009? My credentials are as followed:

High School: NY Public School

In the end, I would really appreciate any suggestions and or comments concerning the chances of admission to New York University Stern School of Business.

Thank You,
NYBusinessKid

your ECs and stats looks fine. SAT is a bit low but HEOP wouldnt mind that if it meets minimum requirements. could it be your essays?

My college personal essay was reviewed by the English Department and Fordham Professor. I believe that it was phenomenal. As for the other two, New York University required that I write them on the spot. My interview was exceptional to. The individual told me that he was, “I will be looking forward to seeing you next year.”

What should I do now in college to improve my chances?

Thank You

i suggest you let someone who is familiar with admission essays rather than academic papers. the english department and admissions office may not have the same ideology. i dont see how you would be really rejected unless they really focus on your SAT scores a lot (for transfer students, it will certainty have a less impact since SATs measure your ability to do well in college but you’re in college already so it will be your college GPA and professor recommendation) or there’s something wrong with your essay(s) or recommendations.

One thing you can do is make sure your professor writes a great recommendation and not you writing it. get a professor that actually takes the time to know about you so he/she could write a excellent recommendation. a recommendation that sounds generic may not help you. Since you have many internships, your employer can also comment on your work since it is different from an academic viewpoint. good luck!

btw be sure to check the required courses you are to take to transfer to Stern. not having one would not reject you but a lot missing probably would.

be sure to ask questions on the nyu admissions bulletin but no chances threads. calling a stern admissions counselor could further assist you.

Wow I would have thought you getting the phone call from HEOP would have guarenteed you for acceptance. Good luck man, NYU’s my dream school too!

Dear College Confidential Members,

So far I would like to thank you for your input. In response to Junior Member bimachris, why so? I don’t believe I am a minority.

Thank You,
NYBusinessKid

P.S. I wish all incoming Freshman Class 2009 and Transfer Students best of luck and wishes with the college application process!

I don’t think they rejected you from HEOP because you’re not a minority, who knows. NYU’s just so random sometimes and that kind of scares me

i thought HEOP was for low-income students, not necessarily for minorities

I come from a middle-income family.

Thank You,
NYBusinessKid

Middle class kid with terrible scores, that’s two strikes against you.

Transferring into Stern is tough… Good luck with it.
