Reasons for Attending?

I've been accepted to UMinn and Penn State but honestly do not believe I can afford Penn State or that they would give me enough aid to make it. They also accepted me for summer which is another 8k that I cannot afford and don't want to be in school on July 1. I'm an independent student and need to work this summer. I do understand that it is possibly for reconsideration for fall but even with that it doesn't seem do-able.

If by some miracle I get enough aid/scholarships to UMinn I really think I want to go there.

I have a lot of applications outstanding but, except for SUNYs, would result in a lot of debt. UMinn seems to be the only non-SUNY that is actually affordable.

I haven't been to the campus but hope to go during spring break (my high school's sb is different than UMs).

For those who are pretty sure they are going, what is your deciding factor? Have you been to the campus? What other factors push you toward going there?

I’m pretty sure I am going. But I am going to visit on February 21st (Gold Carpet Monday) just to make sure i like it. The things that are really standing out are that its ranked third for my major (chemical engineering), they are offering a great scholarship package, and it seems they can really help with what i want to achieve.

ohmygosh, My son is coming back for an admitted student visit on Feb 21 too. What is Gold Carpet Monday? I just signed up on line b/c he has day off school.

I think Gold Carpet Monday is an open house for students who have been admitted to the engineering school, and also offered participation in the university honors program. (I think the different schools at UMN - engineering, business, liberal arts, etc. - have Gold Carpet days on different days of the week. At least, I think I’ve seen a liberal arts Gold Carpet day on a different day of the week.)
