I am getting a C in precalc honors this year.

1st MP (F)
2nd MP (C+)
3rd MP (B)
4th MP (to be decided)

There is obviously an upward trend. I also go see this teacher for help regularly. The C is the weakest part of my transcript and I really want there to be some kind of explanation for it on my app and the best way to do that is to get a rec from the teacher who'll probably talk about my hard work and improvement.

Do you think this is a good idea?

recommendations should always be from a teacher who you have a good relationship with. I am getting a recommendation from an English teacher where I got a C plus in. We get along great and I’ve improved since then so I hope that I can take his class senior year and hope I can show him that I have flourished as a human being and intellectual mind

Merryhappy, if you are sure that this teacher will have truly wonderful things to say about you and your hard work, then go for it. You can also explain the circumstances of this class briefly in the “Additional Information” section of your Common App.If you decide to include your own explanation, make sure that it is positive and complaint- and excuse-free! Put the best spin on it you can - what you have learned from the experience, etc. Good luck to you.
