Rec Letter Etiquette

Hey CC :)

So I just found out about a cool summer program (volunteering) that I really want to do, but it requires a teacher's rec. The deadline is March 1st, and that's where my problem comes in. What should I do?

A) Tell her on Monday (the day I get back from break) and apologize for only giving her a week to write it.

B) Interrupt her break and explain over email and give her three extra days, which is still not a lot of time...

C) Forget about it since a week (or a week and three days) is not enough time :(

Help would be appreciated!

I think A would be good. When I ask my teachers for recs, usually a week is more than enough time. Some teachers have even given them to me the next day. Plus, your teacher might want to hear about the program you’re applying to in person.

Thanks!

I was thinking the same thing. I want to talk to them in person about the program.

I was just a little queasy about the one week deadline since I know that most people give their teachers two to three weeks :/

I agree - go with A. A week is ample time. Most recommendations are usually told a week ahead in my school and teachers don’t really fuss about it much.

Good Luck!
