So. I’ve heard stories like this. And I’m sure you have too. But, I for one always thought it always happens to someone else. But I feel lke I kind of walked out from a spin-off of that MTV Movie Orange County.

One of my rec letters may or may not have been addressed to the Wake Forest Scholarship Committee. This letter was sent to the Wake Forest Scholarship Committe…as well as the Penn AdCom and the American U AdCom. Or. It may or may not have been addressed to 'Whom it May Concern."

I was in touch with my regional rep at American - she’s supposed to let me know what it says once their system is back up and she can pull up my application / recs (I figured I’d bug AU before getting to Penn since they seem fairly laid back).

Lets say things are a worst case scenario and Penn’s letter is addressed Wake Forest…um…what do I do?

The AU Rep laughed and told me it happens more than I’d think (she didn’t, however, tell me it never hurts admission. Not that I asked). But for some reason, I just cant shake that ‘nervous stomach, can’t sleep’ feeling.

If that's what happened and you're worried about it, you can always call your rep and explain the mixup and take the oppty to say that Penn is your one and only choice if you get in ( if it is). Normally I wouldn't worry, but if the letter was for a scholarship to WF, you may be right they may think you'd take a good merit offer from there. The good news is that the screw up wasn't your fault!

Yeah, Penn isn't going to hold something against you that a teacher fumbled on. The other schools, well, I don't know about them. They may be intimidated if they get the Penn one and think if you got in there, then you won't go to their school, and they may waitlist you. You should beat your teacher.

I agree with bongo. Penn is probably not gonna hold you accountable for something that's out of your control. My HS transcripts were sent after Thanksgiving, when the adcoms started reviewing apps, but I still miraculously got away with it. It's not like I can do anything about my transcripts, and Penn knows that. So if it's out of your control, then it's probably alright. It doesn't hurt though to call Penn and the other schools and explain the screwup, or tell your teacher to do it. He/she at least owe you that much.

Well, AU hasnt gotten back to me, so I called Penn and they transferred me to my regional rep, who told me to have the correct letter faxed. Whomever I spoke with told me its possible whoever was putting my stuff in my file may have just thrown away the letter when they saw it was addressed to the wrong school.
