Recalculating H.S GPA?

What is Georgetown's policy for recalculating the GPA's of students applying? Do they even recalculate, and do they not count certain non core classes? Thank you for any feedback.

A- = 3.66
B+ = 3.33
B- = 2.66
C+ = 2.33

They use only core classes.

by core do you mean non PE type classes (for example)

@An0nimity:

Where are you getting this information?

I’m a student at Georgetown and they use that system here. Plus, during the admissions process last year they stated several times that they recalculate GPAs. Yes, core classes mean non-PE type things.

Obviously As are still 4.0 and Bs are still 3.0 so if your high school didnt do pluses and minuses it doesn’t matter much for you.

@An0nmity

How are you liking Georgetown? From your side information on this page I can guess that you’re a freshman?

It was probably the best decision I’ve ever made. I was choosing between Vanderbilt and Georgetown and I chose Georgetown in the end. One thing I was worried about was there not being much of a social life due to lack of Greek life. Luckily, as it turned out, there is a huge social life at Georgetown even without Greek life. Clubs take the places of sororities and fraternities and there still are some of those if you’re into that. Studying is difficult and its bound to be since its Georgetown. But, I’m doing Pre-med and I can tell you I can easily balance having a social life on Fridays and Saturdays and studying the rest of the week. The rest of the campus is very similar in this aspect.

Everyone’s experience is obviously different but all of my friends are enjoying their time as well.

Well it sure sounds like you like it! Thats great to hear, it’s really nice to read stories like yours. One other question for you, an0nmity, how much does athletics play a role for girls at Georgetown? (I’m a rower right now, but not a recruit or anything, but if I were to get accepted would I have enough time for a social life and schoolwork as well?)

Definitely, I know quite a few people who are the crew team. They’re all doing well balancing crew, school work, and having a social life on the weekends so its really about time management and knowing what your priorities are. Granted, there may be weekends where you might have to give up having a social life for a night or two but that just depends on how hard you work during the week and how much work you have for the following week.

That sounds great, thank you so much :)

ughh ok this makes me so mad. one of my teachers gave me an A- when she had forgot to enter in one of my last assignments, so she changed it to an A, but that was after I sent in my Georgetown app…eff.

so is a standard core class weighted just the same as an AP core class?

Yeah its all weighted the same, but of course they do take course load into consideration when viewing your gpa.
