Couples questions about getting a professor I worked with to write a reccomendation letter. I want to make things as easy as I can for her, but I was hoping to use her reccomendation for 5 colleges. Should I ask her to not mention a college name on the rec, or have her change the name on each one before she prints it?(If I did this then I would have to write the name of each college on the envelopes and it might get confusing). Also, should I put stamps on the envelopes and have her send them or have her just seal the envelopes and put them in a big manila one when I send in my apps?

I don't think it's really necessary to individually address each school in each application. You should do everything you can to help your teacher with the recs. Give her a copy of your high school transcript and list of your ECs and awards. Then politely ask her to write an honest, personal rec for you. If you need five copies, just ask her to print off five copies. Provide the stamps and envelopes for her, and print all the address infromation on the envelopes for her also. She can send them herself, I think.

This is the way my brother did it, when he went to college. Good luck!

Do you really think she shouldn't put the name of the university? Won't it sound sort of canned it it isn't personalized to the college at all?

If all you do is put the name at the top, it will be obvious anyway. Most colleges understand that their students are planning to apply to many colleges, and that they are going to send the same recommendations. If you are really worried, go ahead and ask the teacher to put the college name at the top. To me, it just seems like another annoying step for the teacher. But take any precautions you think are necessary. My brother didn't write the college names of any of the places he applied to anywhere really, and he got into several top schools. I wouldn't worry, but go ahead and do whatever you need to do.

all my recs were the same for each college i applied to. that was just standard practice at my school.

I don't just mean the name at the top or bottom, but if the prof peppers in the name throughout the rec in way's like "I think he will be pefect at XX school" or "he is very excited at the prospect of attending XX school" won't it sound better than if no school name is mentioned at all? I don't mean that I want each letter to be completely personalized but do most people switch out the school names or just leave them out?
