Received Unsubsidized Loan Disclosure Statement for a School Son is Not Attending.

My son just received the Direct Loans Disclosure Statement showing that they are disbursing the $5500 unsibsidized loan for him to a school he is not attending. He did apply for financial aid from this school, but chose to go elsewhere and never paid a deposit there. It says the first disbursement of $2737 would be made on 8/15/2011.

I would like to call and make sure this is a mistake, but I don't think anyone will talk to me since I am not the borrower. Son is already at school 3000 miles away (and has already received a subsidized loan at that U). Does anyone have experience with this? Should we just ignore it or should I ask my son to call someone. The Disclosure Statement gives no contact information.

Bumpity bump bump…

Same thing happened to us. We called the school and let them know. Our S had already contacted that school a month or so ago to let him know he wasn’t attending, but I guess the Admissions office didn’t contact the FA office. They said to write a letter to the FA office explaining that we didn’t want it. We did that right away, and haven’t gotten any more letters.

I would suggest contacting the FA department at the school.

Thanks! I will do it!
