Receiving mail from colleges

what does it mean when colleges send: summer program information/applications, bulletins, big foldable maps, the application to the school itself, scholarship information and applications, emails about "direct connection" applications, and (not as crucial) "happy holidays"

i've received several of these items from schools such as UChicago, BC, Vandy, UVa, Wake Forest and other lesser schools- without having sent my test scores and/or expressed an interest in any other way (filled out cards, requested info online etc..)

is it a marketing scheme or does it show that the school is interested in you?

I wasn't aware of some of these schools until after I received these items and then decided to apply!

They usually obtain your information through a testing agency, most commonly from the PSAT. It doesn’t mean much at all. It’s simply the college’s way of advertising itself: they’re not trying to recruit you.

tha’ts what i felt as well, but my PSAT score was just average…when they get these scores do they see your gpa also?

No, just the score. And you don’t have to score that high to get the mail.
