Recommend good colleges for me!

I'm currently a junior in high school and I'm looking at colleges, but am unsure if I'm looking at the right schools, or if I'm on the right track at all! I have a 93-94 overall average unweighted, which I believe is a 4.0 GPA. I take one AP class, and get AP credits for my Photography elective because I submitted an AP portfolio. The rest of my classes are regulars but I receive very good grades in them. I am on two varsity sports and have played them both all throughout high school and will continue them next year. I am in yearbook club, as well as National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society. For the march SAT I took I got a 1770, but I was completely unsatisfied with that and took it again in May and am waiting for my new grade. My goal is anywhere between a 1900 and 1950 but I'm not sure if I will get that... I'm not really sure what schools I should be looking at but so far I am interested in Wisconsin, Maryland, and University of Florida. I am from NY and fully intend to go to an out of state school. I am really into sports involved schools that are extremely RaRa and school spirited (you get the general idea of what I'm into from the colleges I listed). Also, I'm looking more for a college that is campusy; I am turned off by colleges in urban settings. I visited Wisconsin and it was a little bit of both a campus and city setting, but nothing like NYC so it wasn't bad, I actually fell in love with it. I also visited Indiana and fell head over heels in love with the school, except I felt the grades and requirements were a little below my ability but otherwise it was perfect. I just wanted to get some feedback on what other schools I could potentially consider! Thanks! (:

What type of major program are you looking for? Start with the basics

For the type of schools you seem to like, you might also look into: UIndiana-Bloomington, UDelaware, Penn State, Wake Forest, UNC-Chapel Hill

If you think Indiana is below you’re ability, why do you think Wisconsin, Maryland, and Florida are appropriate?

So far your only stated preferences are sports, school spirit, and defined campus. Look at the major NCAA conferences and you will find these attributes at most of those schools. Let’s fine tune it a bit. What do you want to study? What is your budget? How far are you willing to travel? Any size preference?

Does your school have other AP courses and honors-level courses? If so, did you take any or did you take only “regular” ones?
Your high GPA will not seem so impressive when compared to kids who got that GPA while taking harder courses, so don’t be so quick to think Indiana is “beneath” you. It is the combination of GPA AND course “rigor” that usually matters to most schools.

Indiana is a great school.
if you want more up the silly prestige scale…Vanderbilt

93 is about 3.75 not 4.0

closer to 3.7 actually

UT but that might be too urban, though in certain places around austin it feels like a smaller town.
UGA but that might be bellow your ability.
Michigan or UNC if you feel like you can get in.
Most the BIG 10 schools will probably fit you. Thats what I’ve been looking into lately.

There is not a huge, if any, academic difference between the schools you listed and Indiana. If you like the school, apply!
And if your SAT doesn’t go up your going to have some slight difficulty getting into even Wisconsion, considering 1770 barely hits their bottom quartile.
Also, you should check into your gpa, because around 93% average would actually probably be a 3.7 which is not bad, but could be an issue if your SAT doesn’t go up as much as you want. Especially with your very low course rigor.
Schools to look into:
Penn state- their biggest factor is GPA and course rigor, your gpa should be fine but if you really like penn state I would recommend adding more AP/honors classes senior year.
Ohio State- you should get in, but again your in the middle so it’s no guarantee.
Michigan State- this is your best shot at merit aid, they have school spirit and good academics.
Don’t get caught up in the “prestige” of colleges, go where YOU want to go.
Also, don’t overestimate yourself, I swear I am not trying to be rude or mean but a 3.7 gpa, 1770 sat and only 1 AP is pretty low even for these public schools.
Good luck!

from an earlier post:

*I take all regular classes this year, except I am in AP English Language.

I have not taken my SAT or ACT yet but my goal for the SAT is to get anywhere between a 1950 and 2100. For the ACT I’m thinking either a 26-27 but don’t know much about the ACT to have a realistic goal for myself.*

Indiana is NOT below your abilities. Your stats (1770 SAT from recent test) are rather average for the school.

For the march SAT I took I got a 1770, but I was completely unsatisfied with that and took it again in May and am waiting for my new grade.
The amount that your parents will pay will largely determine where you should apply and can afford.

What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay? If they’ll pay $35k+ per year for these OOS publics, then fine. If they won’t pay, then these schools won’t be affordable.

If you don’t know how much your parents will pay, ask them. You need to know that info.

Also, don’t overestimate yourself, I swear I am not trying to be rude or mean but a 3.7 gpa, 1770 sat and only 1 AP is pretty low even for these public schools.

True, which is why the student wouldn’t likely get merit scholarships for any of these schools. Very doubtful that he’d get accepted to Florida.

I would also consider Virginia Tech, N. Carolina St, and Florida St

I agree with m2ck. Heck, i wouldnt be surprised if IU rejected you
