recommendation letters

This is what it says on the nyu site
"Teacher Evaluation Form (at least one, but no more than two)"

so could I just get one from someone out of school and a teacher at school? do I have to get a counselor recommendation? I don't get it.

It sounds like NYU wants one teacher rec minimum, then you may choose to have another recommender who is not a teacher. However, the person should know you well, with some knowledge of your academic skills/ potential, character and/ or excellence in some ECs or passions in and out of school. That is, do not choose a recommender who does not have qualifications to comment on your academic abilities, character, drive, ambition, achievements.

Go to the Common App and look at the recommendation forms you have to get filled out.

The counselor rec usually goes with the counselor school report that is provided to give info on how you compare with peers at your school as well as other statistics and info.
