Besides the 3 that are done online (and sent to the teachers emails), are we allowed to send more recommendations from other teachers and people? If we are, should the same form be used (the one provided at the bottom of one’s candidate page) and faxed, or should some other form or format be used (for people who sent multiples in the past).

There's not really a place for additional letter of recommendations. You will obviously need teachers, principals, leaders, etc... recommendations for your nomination packages to your senator and/or representative.

The academy sees your 3 teachers recommendations and your ALO's recommendation as well as your online application. If it's allowed to send the "Academy" more letters of recommendations, I wish I had known. We did the application as it was explained. It would have been nice. However, like you, my son has plenty of outstanding letters from the principal of the school, football coaches, teachers, law firms, etc... All of these have been used for the nomination packages sent to the reps and senators. Later... Mike....

It's awesome that you have a host of people who would be happy to write you recommendations, but you must remember that the admissions panel has to review 10,000+ of these applications every year. Part of the reason why they request 3 is because very many more just isn't realistic. I know you want to be proactive and you don't want to just do the minimum, but in this case, it's better to just stick with what they ask for. Make sure you select your teachers wisely. If you get 3 excellent recommendations, it's way better than 6 mediocre ones. GOod luck! I'm sure you'll do great! :)

What Redhead said...I've heard/read that neither the Academies nor the nomination sources particularly like it when you send in more recommendation letters. All that means is that you're getting people who you know will give you a good evaluation, and they don't really care to read that. That's why they specify from whom they want the 3 necessary letters to be. The teachers they request may or may not give you a good recommendation (though they probably will). The recommendations for the MOC's and the Academies are (I have read) the least important part of the application. A good recommendations is probably not looked at twice, but a bad one definitely means something.
