recommendation letters?

I posted this thread few days ago, but im getting confused.
I checked the nyu website, and they said only one teacher rec. letter is recommended.
then how come i see these ppl asking the "chance" them say that they have like 2 rec. letters (from teachers not counsellors)?

is it better to have more??

From what I hear, NYU doesn't really want more than one academic teacher recommendation, especially if you get two or more and they both say the same thing ("so and so is a great student! They did well in my class!").

I've been told if you have more than just the counselor's and a teacher's, go for a coach or someone who knows you in a more personal context.

I think it all depends on what school you are applying to. I believe that for CAS, you only need one recommendation from an academic teacher. But if you are applying for, say, Tisch, you may also want to/be permitted to submit a letter from, for instance, a music teacher or theater director, etc.

The best thing is to follow the directions in the application.

Thank you!:D

Thanks I've had the same question!

My D submitted more letters than they requested and got accepted. I think she sent letters from 2 subject area teachers and one from the school's research program director (plus guidance). Although she is a music major, she did not submit a letter from her choir director because the music department head specifically said not to send it. NYU Steinhardt bases all they need to know about a student musically on their audition.

I'm submitting two academic teacher recs because that's standard practice at my school. They can just read one of them if they want to.
