Recommendations and credits

First of all, how do I get my two teachers and counsellor to put down references on my common app? I thought it would be somewhere in the 'Education' section, but I can't find it.

Secondly, what does 'credit value' mean when I'm putting down my current year courses? Is it like a score from the course, or is it something to do with university courses? I'm really confused...
Also, in the UK, one course is made up of several modules: we take two in the first year of 'high-school' and two in the second. Do you then think that I should put them down as just Mathematics, History etc. or 'Statistics 1, Mechanics 1, Core 1' etc.? The latter would probably be much more complicated, as I would have to write down about 20 modules in total ... On top of that, I'm taking a gap-year: should I then just put down the courses that i took last year?

Help will be much appreciated, since I'm just a little British schmuck, doing it all by myself...

You need to add schools before you will be able to invite your teachers and counselor. Once you do that, look in the dashboard tab for the Assign Recommenders section for each school.

If you are currently in a gap year, you will not list any current year courses. That section is only for courses currently in progress at the time you submit the application.

Thanks niceday!

Could you please just explain what the ‘credit value’ thing means? Although I am out of school, I am self-teaching myself another A-level course, taking some online classes, and an undergdaduate class at a local univeristy, so it’s not like I’ll leave it all blank. I’ll MASSIVELY appreciate help :)

In U.S. high schools, a normal full-year course would be one credit, a half year (one semester) course would be half a credit, and a full-year science class with a lab would likely be 1.5 credits.

Credit value has different meanings in different settings. Many international schools are on a completely different credit basis from US schools.

In your case, unless you are getting HS credit for the courses you’re taking, you don’t list them as current courses and don’t need to concern yourself with the credit values.

For those where you are not eligible for college credit, you could list them as Activities or under Additional Information.

For those that offer college credit, you could possibly list them under the Colleges and Universities tab. Provide a brief explanation in the Additional Information section.
