Recommendations for on campus housing freshman year?

I am an incoming freshman this fall and I’m starting to look into housing options for the housing application. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or pros/cons of living in some of the dorms. The dorms have all been renovated from the last time someone has posted a question like this.

My D is waiting on her admission decision (hopefully this week), but I attended ages ago. I lived in Avery which is mid campus and right beside the baseball stadium. Loved it. It was small with four floors, co-ed, and very clean for an older dorm. I liked that it was small and I knew everyone. I was elected social chair my freshman year and stayed for my sophomore year as well. The smaller dorms feel more like family.

If it is anything like it was last year, then most freshmen are going to live on South Campus or in Granville Towers. I lived in Hinton James this year (which is affectionately called HoJo) and it isn’t too bad. Hinton James, Ehringhaus, and Craige are all the same type of building, which is suite style. The hallways to get to your room are all outside, so it kinda sucks when it’s cold. But as far as your room goes, you live in a suite with 7 other people. There’s four rooms in the hall, and theres one bathroom that you share. The cleaning staff comes in and cleans the bathroom for you, so you don’t have to worry about it. In Hardin, Koury, Horton, and Craige North all the halls to your room are indoors, and you typically share a bathroom with three other people. That is, two rooms share one bathroom, and you are responsible for cleaning your own bathroom.

I think the size of the rooms is pretty much the same in all of the buildings, and they are all about a 15 minute walk from the middle of campus. There are also a lot of bus stops on south campus, so if you ever don’t wanna walk, it is not hard to catch a bus to where you need to go.

Also, Hojo and Ehaus are the biggest freshmen dorms, and they are pretty lively (over 900 people live in Hojo). But it’s not too noisy, and it’s fun to be around so many people and get to know them all. However, there tends to be a lot of fire alarms that go off in the middle of the night so be prepared for that lol. The other dorms are smaller, but that allows you to get to know people on a more intimate level, and is nice if don’t want to be overwhelmed with the amount of people living in one dorm.

@tarheelgirl96 (or anyone else): What about Morrison, is it dedicated for freshman housing? If so, what do you know about it? (My impression was that it is similar to Craige.)

^ I may have answered my own question.

What about Everett and Stacy, anyone know anything about them?

Take a look at the UNC housing site. I believe Everett and Stacy are hall style and are on North campus. A lot closer to classes. A lot smaller (3-4 stories). Likely one floor will be male and one floor will be female if they do it the same way as the past. If you are on North campus you would likely be eating more at Lenoir rather than Rams Head where the bulk of the other freshmen eat (at least dinner).
