Recommendations

If a scholarship requires recommendations from school people (teachers, counselors, principal, etc.), but doesn't specifically state which kind, would it be better to attach a letter from a teacher or from a counselor? What if it requires multiple recommendations? Would two teachers be better? or a teacher and a counselor letter? Thanks!

sorry...can't help you....I'm wondering that too. :)

People that know you the best, I'd go with.

I guess the problem is what scholarships are looking for in a candidate. If they don't specifically state their selection criteria, whether it be based on academics, extracurricular, or community involvement, where should I place my emphasis on? Teachers are mostly for academics, counselors are for everything and can attest to both your academics and extracurriculars, but not as in depth. What do you guys think?

If you are in a small private school, where the Counselors know each student on a very personal basis, it would be okay to ask a Counselor. In most cases however, Counselor recos don't count for too much, I mean how often do you meet with your GC.

I would go with letter(s) from 1 or 2 teachers, who have taught you for at least 1 year, preferably junior or Senior year. I would prepare a little list of interests/accomplishments that the teacher may not know about, and ask her if she would like a copy. I would also ask the teacher, very honestly if she felt that she would write you a good letter. Hopefully, if she does not care too much for you, she would recommend that you ask someone else.

Of course if you have an amazing relationship with a Counselor.........then go for it.

thanks for the input!
