Our school had a specific sheet to fill out that asked us like GPA, strengths, interests, extracurriculars etc., so if your teachers don’t know you that well I would type out a quick resume.

You should have asked your teachers at least a month or two before the deadline. My D invited the teachers to be her recommenders personally in April, 4 months before CommonApp was even open. Teachers have busy schedule, particularly when all the senior students are asking them for recommendation around the same time. If you want a good recommendation letter instead of a generic one, you should provide your resume or something similar.

They won’t see your college essay or what school they’re being assigned to. They won’t see any part of your application. So make sure that they know it’s just a general letter and not school specific.

However, sometimes it is helpful to show them your college essay, if you’re comfortable with that. It helps your teacher know what strengths you’re trying to emphasize on your application. But even if you don’t send them your essay, definitely let them know what you want them to say in the recommendation. Like what strengths you want them to emphasize, your best classes, any extra-curriculars you do etc. Also, if you already know your major, it might help to let them know that too.

The teachers can see which school(s) you assign their letters to. You have to assign at least one school to a teacher before your name shows up on his/her list.

The answer to your question depends on whether your school uses Naviance. If so, then yes, your teachers can see your schools. If not, then no, they can’t.

In either case, they can’t see your essays. And, in both cases your GC can see all your schools.
