Does anyone know, or would like to venture a guess, as to what is the greatest number of 5s a student has ever received on AP exams?

No idea. Every year there is a kid (or several) who self studies and takes all the exams there are, but I don't know what they get on them.

I always thought there should be an award for having made all 5s on your exams, not only for having taken X number and gotten at least a 3.5, or whatever the current system is.

My kids so far have all made 5s, and they took, respectively, 8, 11, and 4 exams.

What is the current award thing they have going. How many do you need to take and avergae abpve 3.5

"The AP Program offers several Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on any grade report that is sent to colleges the following fall.

Award Levels
AP Scholar
Granted to students who receive grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Honor
Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction
Granted to students who receive an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

AP State Scholar
Granted to the one female and one male student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of exams (at least three exams), and then the highest average grade (at least 3.5) on all AP Exams taken.

National AP Scholar
Granted to students in the United States who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams."

There is also an award for those attending International American schools.

My sister got 13 fives, a number I can confirm. However, a kid in my school from several years ago is credited with 16 fives. Of course, that could be a rumor

I don't know of any AP record holders! In fact I don't know anyone personally who has taken more than 4 APs!! I think getting multiple 5s is very impressive.

There is another award porgram for students with 5s- from the website

The Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement are awarded each year to students with the greatest number of scores of 5 on AP math and science exams taken in grades 9, 10 and 11....

My brother took 16 AP's & got all 5's...

I don't understand. Wouldn't that make a State Scholar better than a National Scholar since there can only be two per state?

No, the national has to have at least ALL 4's and take 8 exams; with the state thing... if the most AP exams taken in your state were 5 with grades of a 3.5, 4, 5 ...then it doesn't equal that consistant more than 8 National.

What did you just say?

yea frizzle.... I didn't understand that at all. clarify please?

basically hes saying that if you live in Montana, Idaho, etc. and the highest number of tests taken is say, 7 and the average on those tests is 3.5, then that is a lower standard than the national and those states serve to balance out the states with many testtakers like California, Texas, or Illinois. However, I don't agree with him because its rare that a state would have such few tests taken and mathematically one or two states don't really balance out 48 others with much higher numbers.

Does it help to be a State Scholar, can you put that on your college application?

Since most peole take the large number of their AP tests in may of their senior year, I doubt you can put it on your college application, unless you're such a genius you take 15+ AP tests by the end of junior year.
