Recorded Audition

Hi!
I apply to BoCo this winter, and live in Tokyo, Japan.
Did anyone here have a recorded audition??
Or do you know someone who had it?

Hey Jnpvittoria,
I just wanted to write and say that I did not have a recorded audition, but one of the boys in my class did and he was admitted as an mt major, and was also given a merit-based scholarship.. they definitely prefer you audition in person, but are fair with all those who audition by video. Best of luck! :)

Hi RaleighRashell,

Thank you for the information!
It really helps me..I haven't decided whether I audition in person(I have to travel to Boston from Japan!) or audition by DVD yet.

Jpn, have you contacted the school yet? Halley Shefler is the dean of admissions and she is really helpful.

Hello Skwidjymom,
Thank you for your advice! I will email to the school soon.
Actually I take the classes until the end of February in my college (I am a senior Voice major student) so I need to reschedule an audition or to send DVD.

Hey!
We're pretty much in the same boat - I live in Asia too (Hong Kong :)) but I'll be doing this a year from now.

I think you should at least wait before they announce any other additional audition cities in Asia or email them about it so then you won't have to go into the trouble of traveling to Boston if they were to travel to Japan to hold auditions! :)

Hi guys!

I'm in Singapore and also applying to BoCo this year. :) I agree with bwayjunkie - wait until they announce the other audition cities in Asia. Currently, the only city up for auditions in Asia is Taipei. I'm so glad they're doing that, though, because I was so worried I'd have to travel to the US for auditions and miss school here.

Hi bwayjunkie and clandestinelli:)

Wow wow wow.. You are applying to Boco from Asia too? How nice!
I asked about the Asia auditions and here are replies from Boco.
We can share the informations!

"I am sorry that I didn't receive your first mail. It might lost.
Your question is about Theatre audition. There is NO Theatre at Taiwan in Nov.14 for 2009 fall enrollment. I will forward your mail to The Boston Conservatory related people. she will answer your question. -Taiwan Office"

"You can audition in Boston or at other cities throughout the country. You can also send in a video. Please check our website, Boston Conservatory - Dates, for dates and locations. -"

I don't want to miss the classes here either, so I may send a DVD to Boco..I know that they prefer to audition in person though.
I will ask a deadline of a Video audition.

One more thing I want to ask to you is about monologues.
I am having a hard time looking for ones fit me. I want to get an Asian character's speech but it is really hard to find.
Anyhow, how do you pick your monologues?:)

Thanks for that info!! Pssh it does suck that they don't hold MT auditions at the Asian regionals.. but I think that is cause not a lot of Asians are really that interested in Musical Theatre... we're special. :)

I know that you don't want to miss your classes, but have you considered the Unified auditions? Even though you'd have to audition in the US, you can audition for Boco and any others you are interested in (that are taking part in it too).
I think the fact that you finish school in Feb is great. Is this early or late Feb? The last 2009 Unifieds are on Feb 7-8. Maybe you can make that one!
Otherwise, just audition through video. I don't think they would mind. In fact, I think they would be pretty excited someone from Japan is auditioning!! :P

As for the monologues - I'm also choosing a monologue to audition for summer programs with help of my acting coach. I don't think there are any monologues where the character is Asian, but I think as long as you choose a monologue that suits your age and is believable and you can showcase the best of your ability, then go for it!

x

I'm having a horrible time of picking monologues. Finding one within my age and experience - to a degree, anyway, for belief and all that - is proving to be ridiculously difficult.

They don't hold MT auditions here? Well, that definitely changes things. :\ I can only seem to find the in-person audition requirements on the website... If you're recording your audition, what does that mean for the dance section?

Hi bwayjunkie,
I am sorry to take so long to reply..
Thank you for letting me know about the unified auditions!
At first, I planned to have those auditions but I have my classes until the end of Feb.

Now I am working on the online application and I finally select a live audition.
If I can't make it , I just cancel it and send my DVD.

I am still having a hard time choosing monologues!
Actually, I don't use English in my daily life in Tokyo, so it is difficult to remember the lines.. But I believe that it will be OK.

Yes, we can!:)

Hi clandestinelli,
Yeah it's hard to pick the monologues.
I want to choose one that is written in simple English. Because my English is not so perfect..

BTW, about the recorded audition, I saw the requirements of a dance section on their website before. But now I can not find it!
I think we are required to dance 4 minutes jazz combination.

Tomorrow I will look for the info again:)
