Son is a recruited athlete for soccer at Oxford, understand there are no athletic scholarships due to DIII status. Has 3.8 GPA unweighted with rigorous courses, 29 ACT, very strong leadership history in extracurricular and sports activities. Applied RD but not until the end of December, so he missed the opportunity for the merit scholarship consideration (not sure he would have been awarded anyway based on lower ACT). Feeling like he might have a chance at admission, but not sure we can afford it if he gets in (our EFC is very high and not realistic for our actual budget). Question is - what scholarships have recruited athletes received in the past that weren’t part of the Scholars program?
@soccerfan2018 Is your son going to be part of the soccer team at Oxford?
@nightstalker160 Yes, if he is accepted and if the financial aid package comes together.
If your son missed the merit scholarship application period, he won’t get merit scholarships. There are not additional merit scholarships (or need based ones) for Div 3 athletes. In fact, the NCAA looks closely at what merit scholarships athletes receive to make sure they are in line with what non-athlete students receive.
Being a recruited athlete can help with admissions, but not with financial aid.
@soccerfan2018 My son is a freshman now on the soccer team (#7).
@soccerfan2018 BTW, what is your son’s first name? I’ll ask my son if he remembers him from one of the recruited athlete’s days.
@nightstalker160 Can you send me a private message? Would love to chat with you, but I don’t have enough activity yet to send a private message (only reply). LOL
Oxford? Like as in the university of Oxford in the UK? Sorry but I am a bit confused…
@MrDiaz : Is that supposed to be shady? If so, what is the point? If not, Emory has an undergraduate unit called Oxford College.
Oh woops. But damm Emory nice
