My son is interested in playing soccer in college. From what I've seen on the Emory website, as a DIII school, they give no monetary or preferential treatment to athletes. This school is out of our reach without aid.
Should we rule it out since if they were interested in him, he couldn't afford to attend?

Since you can’t afford the school without aid, you’d probably qualify for need-based financial aid.

APPLY! you never know if you will get aid (anyone under 100k will def. get aid)… they look at all of your assets and debts so even if you are over 100k you might still get aid…
btw, most colleges will say they dont give preferential treatments but the fact is, almost all private schools do. most dont want to admit it just like most top 20 wont admit that race plays an important factor in your chances. if they are interested in him, raise the financial situation with those people because sometimes there are “outside funds” and “unlisted scholarships” available to athletes/people they really want even if they don’t qualify for financial aid… hint hint: apply!
