Hey, I received my likely letter last week. Anyone else out there in cyberland want to exchange specifics? I am really excited and relieved to have this locked up and over.

Just curious, what sport did you get recruited for?

I’d also like to know which sport and did the coach tell you that you’d be getting a LL or did it come as a surprise?

Many of the Penn coaches do not do likely letters. It depends on your sport and how much you push for one.

It was not a surprise, it came by mail and e-mail. It is a written confirmation from Admissions verifying what the coach has been telling you. It also serves to put your mind at ease regarding the, at times, uncertainty of athletic recruiting. Its a totally classy move by an outstanding University. Its Awesome!!

Not all sports at Penn use likely letters, but I do know that contact with a coach tends to help chances of getting in. I have a few friends that applied to be on the crew team, got in, and didn’t even row when they got here. Because Penn can’t give athletic scholarships, you don’t owe the athletic department anything once you’re accepted. Good hint!

That was a total jag move by those crew guys. Of course you don’t “owe” them anything, but to abuse the system like that is really smarmy.
