My commonapp essay was in response to the "person who has influenced you" topic, and I related it to many of my extra curricular activities. It is a little over 800 words. I really love it. It's tactful but really funny. Would it be unwise to use this as my "more about me in my own words" essay for Gtown?? Would they frown on the topic?

I answered the same question for the CommonApp and submitted that to Georgetown and got in Early Action; should be okay =]

I almost turned my Georgetown essay into my ComApp essay, but I ended up using G’town as an addt’l when asked for. I think your way would work out fine

It’s fine to recycle essays as long as they answer the questions. “More about me” could be covered by just about anything. My son recycled his Georgetown essay for Chicago. It didn’t get him into Georgetown, but it did get him in to Chicago!

recycled mine and got into Georgetown. @mathmom, congratulations to your son! the essay must have been spectacular since Chicago admissions is heavily based on essays.

Of course! As long as it fits and relates. EVERYONE reuses their essays wherever they can. It’s not like you’re “borrowing” it from someone else.

Thanks for the congrats, it was a good essay, but he took a somewhat creative approach to the SFS question - he knew it was risky, but figured with his less than stellar grades yet another policy/research type essay wouldn’t make him stand out. I’m not surprised that Chicago liked it (and his other essays) better than Georgetown did. I felt Georgetown’s applications didn’t give him nearly as much opportunity to look good as Chicago did.

For my Common App essay, I responded to the “significant experience” prompt. Do you that kind of essay would work for Georgetown’s “more about me” essay?

^I think it would be fine. (Not having seen the essay of course.)

Essentially, I just talk about how moving to China has changed me as a person. “More about me” is pretty vague, so I would imagine that that should be okay?

i have a similar question… one of my essays for a supplement was about going to a language immersion program and how it changed me as a person… do you think it’d be really obvious if i reused it for the georgetown app?

does anyone else think the georgetown app is just really annoying… i feel like i can’t say half of the things i fit into my common app, like all of the extra writing spaces just aren’t there… :(
