I wrote my essay on prompt #4 (a place where you feel content) for the common application. It's an interesting take on the prompt, and I feel like it says a lot about my interests and personality. It also "fits" the rest of my app (ECs, interests, etc) and the fact that I want to go into SFS for IPOL. Should I copy and paste my entire common app essay for Georgetown's essay #1 or does that look "bad"? Is recycling the common app essay frowned upon, or expected (by Gtown admissions)?

I used my Common App essay (prompt #2) for my personal essay, and the impression I got from reading several threads on this board was that most people did the same. I was also worried that it might peeve the admissions committee a bit, but ultimately I decided that it would be worse not to use an essay that I personally thought was very good and very representative of me, even if it makes it look like I put slightly less work into the application. If you really like your Common App personal essay, I would use that.

Oh, and good luck from a fellow SFS (IPEC) hopeful. :)

I mean I wrote my creative essay for Georgetown and then copied it for my CA essay, but it’s the same idea.

It will be fine. If it is a really good essay that gives the admissions committee insight into your personality, it will be great. Best of luck!

Yes, it is ok to use your common app essays. Remember the same essays are sent to the multiple colleges you apply to on the common app.
