Howdy!
I’ve written an essays for one of those general prompts (“Explain something personal about yourself” etc.). Part of the essay (one paragraph) explains a minor moral dilemma I had to handle…
I’m just wondering: if I were to take that one paragraph and expand it into a whole different essay, specifically for a “moral dilemma” prompt, would adcoms care that I’ve basically submitted the same essay idea twice (i.e. one essay is about fundriaising; the 2nd essay would be motivating myself to fundraise and overcome laziness)?
I’d rather not write a whole new essay about a completely different topic to satisfy the moral dilemma prompt when I could simply extract and then expand a paragraph from an essay I’ve already written.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Come on people, this could apply to you as well! :)

It doesn't sound like a very good idea to me. I think you'll be doing yourself a disservice by only talking about one event for both prompts. You want to show as many different (but good) sides of yourself as you can in your essays. It seems to be that it would be a better idea to pick two events that were quite different because that would give a better, more well-rounded sense of you as a person. I hope that made sense :/

Also, it makes you appear lazy. You even said that you don't WANT to write a whole new essay. I think colleges will pick up on that and think, "Well, what if he starts recycling his essays in our classes?" That can't be a good thing.

Very good point. I think I'll just have to write a new essay (ugh...lol)
