Recycling my University of Chicago essay

On the Common App that UMass (and other colleges) require, for an essay topic they have "Topic of your choice". Would it be alright if I used my University of Chicago "Find X" essay? Everybody I show that essay to seems to REALLY like it.

Bumping this to the top…

Yeah it’s pretty much fine…just make sure you change up the heading and the college names that you may or may not mention in the paper. You don’t want to send UMASS a paper that has UCHICAGO written anywhere on it…haha.

Eh… the Chicago essay is extremely unique to Chicago, and, depending on which you chose, you would have to give the prompt as background or an introduction which basically included the prompt. Thus, wherever you sent it would likely know that you also applied to University of Chicago. For a state school, which don’t generally care about yield, they won’t care really if you’re qualified. They’ll just know you’re applying to some private schools too.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t send the essay to some other schools with open-ended prompts like Yale, Georgetown, etc. because it indicates a lack of care for that individual institution and more care placed on another school.

Thanks a ton, you were both helpful.
