Did anyone else get a postcard from Reed saying that they'll be in your area, and to schedule an interview? It's with an actual admissions director, instead of just an alum!

I have a few questions about this.

Is it normal for colleges to conduct interviews so early? I was under the impression that they were done after applications were sent in?

And I was told to dress "comfortably" and "casual." What exactly do you think that entails?

I would like to send a handwritten thank you note, but the interview's at a coffee shop so I won't know the interviewer's address. How should I do this? Just send it to Reed addressed to the interviewer?

My daughter had her on campus interview the last week of August before she applied. Yes, it is normal to start interviewing once you are done with Junior year of high school.

Comfortable and casual is just that. Clean and presentable, but not fancy.

After the interview, you can send a handwritten note to Reed Admissions addressed to the interviewer. My daughter thanked her interviewer via email.

Try to relax, it is a fun interview compared to other schools. It’s more of a conversation about what you’re interested in, what you’ve been doing with yourself, what books you read. At least that is what my daughter told me. The interviewer never spoke about grades or scores or any of that sort of thing.

If you can arrange it, you might try to schedule interviews in reverse order of preference. By the time you get to your favorite school, you have some practice and you might be a bit more relaxed. :)
