Does anyone have information regarding Reed College's Multicultural Scholars Preview Days? The application is due tomorrow and I wanted to make sure which races are eligible to apply, as it is not explicit on the application. Also, it would be nice to find some statistics on admission to the program. Thanks.

Here's a link to the program information: Reed College | Admission | Reed College Admission Office

Two things to key on from the web page: “domestic” students, which means US only, and historically “underrepresented.” From your name, I’d guess you to possibly be Asian Indian? Don’t know if being Asian is considered historically underrepresented when it comes to college admissions. In corporate hiring, yes (except sciences and engineering). But college admissions is different.

Does anybody know if accepted students will get the opportunity to see Portland as well?

According to the information they mailed, no. It all seems to be on-campus stuff like class visits, informational interviews and the whole “dorm experience” thing.

Jennifields, are you thinking the area of Portland immediately surrounding Reed, or the city in general?

There seems to be a lot of free-time according to the information that they mailed. Do you think we will be allowed to leave campus in that time? Or do we just hang out on campus all day?

Honestly, I’m not sure. Though it does look like they’re pretty intent on us getting as much out of the actual Reed campus as is possible, so it’s quite possible that we’ll just explore the campus and sit in on classes all day.

The congrats letter does have an email address for any questions we might have, though, so you could contact her about it if you want.
