Referencing other essays?

The Basic Question:
When I am filling out a school's supplement, am I allowed to include a bit in one essay that refers to something I talked about in the other essay, and assume they know what I'm talking about?

The Situation:
I am doing Princeton's supplement, and I will be filling out the engineering essay too. In my regular essay, I talk about a person (let's say Bob) and how Bob influenced me. In my engineering essay, can I say something like "At Princeton, I would be able to fulfill the dream that Bob instilled in me..." (except with better wording)?

Anyone? Surely one person must know.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I would make no such assumptions. There’s no much at risk. A reader who doesn’t remember (or maybe never saw the other essay) is likely to be annoyed. There just isn’t enough time available in the process for a reader to say, “Gosh, I didn’t catch that reference, so let me review the other essay . . .”

Seems risky - could be that an engineering department rep reads the engineering essays but doesn’t read the other essays.

Thanks for the responses
