Refunding Enrollment Fee?

So I have recently been accepted as an OOS student to Mizzou but I would like to clarify something. If I pay the enrollment fee and go through all the steps (housing, honors, etc.) of an accepted student but come May I decide that Mizzou is not for me and choose to go to a different school, will I be breaking any rules? I just want to be sure that I can back out when all of my other admissions decisions come in a few months if I feel the need to, but at the same time still be ready to go with housing, scholarships, and so on if i DO decide to attend.

Also interested in this. While we have not ruled out Mizzou, we are still waiting on other apps and have yet to visit Mizzou and many other schools.

Because of Mizzou being such a big school, would like to sign son up for housing when available, especially since he was NOT admitted to honors. He would like to live in an engineering learning community, but we don’t want to be out hundreds of dollars if son does not decide to attend.

I have paid the enrollment fee, but it’s my understanding that that is refundable should you notify them that you are not enrolling by May 1st.

To ensure a housing placement, we sent enrollment and housing deposits to Mizzou 2 years ago in early spring, when it was very high on S’s list. He ultimately chose differently and Mizzou refunded the total enrollment deposit and all but $25 of the housing deposit. They were very nice and the refund was issued immediately upon us notifying them (prior to May 1st) that S would not be attending. We thought the bureaucracy at Mizzou was very efficient and helpful. You can call and ask for clarification of what portion of the deposits is refundable and what are not, just to be sure.

bumping up this post as others may need to refer to it.

Son will not attend Mizzou as an undergrad, as he would have to incur a good amount of debt to attend at this point. Since he plans to attend grad school, he will apply to Mizzou again at that point and hopefully be in a better financial position to attend.

As one of the above posters had mentioned that you can get your enrollment and other refundable deposits back if you notify them before May 1, I was wondering who you would direct a letter to and what wording should you include in the letter so they understand that you are not only giving up your spot on the freshman roster, but that you would also like to get your enrollment deposit refunded.

Hope all who attend Mizzou enjoy your time there. Although we never got to visit, it seemed like a great school and hope son will consider it for his graduate work in biomedical engineering.

Good luck to your son :)

I sent an email to Mizzou to withdraw admission and request a refund of the enrollment fee, and we received a check right away.

As son has chosen to attend a school closer to home, he will not be attending.

However, the school he is attending is a big out of state school, so glad he will get used to that experience, so when he attends Mizzou for grad school, it won’t be such a culture shock.

I would like to say thank you for how helpful everyone has been on this site and at the school when speaking with them.

Good luck to all at Mizzou!

Thanks again,

Glad to hear your son is all set at a school closer to home. Good luck to him!!
