regarding cover letter

Do I really have to write the cover letter when it is required to apply for internship?

I do not have any experience related to my field so I'm not really sure how I can talk about this in the cover letter which can be related to the specific internship position.

If a cover letter is required, then yes, you should write one. Some employers don’t even look over applications that aren’t completed as instructed.

Keep it 250-500 words (less than a page, the shorter the better). If you don’t have directly applicable experience, then speak generally about your experiences, academic background, and skills and try to relate them back to the expectations you have for the duties you would have as an intern. You can speak mostly about your motivation for applying for the internship and what you will contribute to the program.
