I was wondering if the better housing was saved for those who sent their deposits earlier as opposed to those who wait til the last week of April or whenever.

Or do they start take housing into consideration after May 1st in an indiscriminant order?

Also, for an undecided in the college, which dorms do you guys recommend?

The only priority given for housing is to people who send in their housing requests before the May deadline. So no, it shouldn't make a difference. Waitlistees and transfers are the ones who really get screwed.
As far as choosing a college house...that really depends on what you want?
Privacy, community, location, space, atmosphere, convenience etc.

The traditional freshman dorms are any of the Quad houses and Hill house (and Kings Court/English too). But if they don't particularly appeal to you, don't be afraid to apply to a different house. You might also want to consider applying for a residential program, they can be really fun.

I'm probably going to go with Kings Court as my first choice, its near most of the main part of campus, and I hear its not entirely nerdy and not overly party either.

Honestly chocoman, not to totally dis Kings Court, but it is very quiet, and fairly anti-social. It's also not in the main part of campus.. it's kinda it's a weird location. Personally if you want something not entirely nerdy and not overly party, i'd go with Hill.. It's also in a more central location, and has a much better dining hall than KC.
Just a thought :)

i haven't gone, but i know the school pretty well... hill is kind of run down, small frosh dorms, it's the ultimate 'college' experience... but if you have a choice, just get a dorm in the quad... morris bovine? or bodine, is right by the gates off 34th and locust?

ive heard its best to stay away from the bathrooms shared on floor. but is it really that bad? cuz i want to be near the social scene, but then again, i dont wanna be uncomfortable. most of the quad dorms have bathrooms shared on the floor. any suggestions from current quakers? any preference from class of 2009ers?

I did an overnight in Ware, which is in the Quad, and found the bathrooms to be perfectly fine. The bathrooms were clean, well-lit, and had no blaring flaws. I was pretty impressed because the dorm that I was staying in for the night had its own sink and mirror. The Quad was absolutely beautiful and the room was pretty small (it was a single) but seemed to be nice enough for a dorm.

The quad is Fischer, Ware and Riepe (formally known as Spruce).

The bathrooms are prefectly fine wherever you go.. haven't really heard any problems of them and actually only waited once this entire year for a shower..

if you want to be around other freshmen, apply for hill or the quad.
Hill is near the engineering buildings and has its own dining hall
The quad is known for being social, but many students cannot study in their rooms in the quad; great experience nonetheless

QUAD (Fisher, Ware, Spruce-Reipe College Houses) - have singles, doubles and triples. You normally share bathrooms with your hall. The rooms are decent. The atmosphere is awesome for freshman. Really social people.

HILL - Mostly all freshman. Really tight community feel. The rooms are pretty small (either double or single) and you share a bathroom with your hall.

HIGH RISES (Harrison, Hamilton, Harnwell) - 3 types of apts here. All the rooms have a bathroom, kitchen, and living room. The first type of apt is has 2 single bedrooms and 1 double (so 4 people share a bathroom). The second type of apt has 1 double bedroom (so 2 people shara a bathroom). The third type of apt has 4 single bedrooms (these are usually for seniors and sometimes juniors). The high rises are not as social but you can sure throw a hell of a good party in an apt there.

STOUFFER (Stouffer, Mayer, Annex) - Stouffer has mostly singles and a few doubles. You share a bathroom with approximately 4-6 people. Each section in stouffer (A-F) had a kitchen and a lounge. Mayer Hall has huge apts, private bathrooms, etc. The Annex is an old frat house (used to be ZBT last year) and they converted into dorms. It's pretty run down. Stouffer people tend to be pretty studious and keep to themselves. Not a very social dorm.

GREGORY (Van Pelt, Class of 25) - These rooms have 4 people to one bathroom, each person has their own room, but there is no living room or kitchen. The building are pretty run down and the people are typically pretty nerdy.

KINGS COURT/ENGLISH HOUSE - In my opinion the worst dorms on campus. The people are super nerdy. It is usually referred to as the "nerdy asian dorm" (no offense to anyone). The rooms are pretty big in Kings Court usually doubles but you share a hall bathroom. English House is really run down and it has mostly doubles with hall bathrooms.

DUBOIS - The african american dorm. This is the only dorm I've actually never been inside so I can't comment on it. All I know is that it's like 99% black.

has anyone looked at the housing application? it seems like there are only 6 spots, and I could not do all quad, only 3. Can I do a res program and then 3 quad and then 3 others or what?

afa - im currently 300 words into my entrepreneurs' residential program essay, but I cant seem to find more info other than one the booklet says. the program sounds cool, but I doubt I would do it if it wasnt in the quad
