Regarding Housing

okay i have a stupid question, just in case. if i apply for housing but eventually do not come to Penn, and do not confirm my housing assignment by 18th june, i wont be charged for the room, will i?

because the only way i can come is if i get a scholarship and i cant get a confirmed offer before 1st may.

Would a double or a single room be preferable? I had always thought I wanted a double so I would meet people easier, but is this the case? Do most people prefer a single, or a double? And what are the differences socially?

i'm in the same boat. i'm thinking of taking a double because living in a single might become boring! i need another soul in the room to talk to. this plan may backfire pretty badly though if i end up not liking my roommate.

I'm applying for a single, except for those in the quad because they're too expensive. I've had my own room for 18 years now, so I can't imagine living with another person :</p>

heh, ive always had my own room too, but I think I would get too bored in a single

I applied for a single... that way you can choose whether or not you wish to be social :)

argh.. i tried to submit my housing app and it kept returning error pages.

People are classifying Hill kids as "down to earth", what does this mean? What percentage of students in Hill party on a daily basis? Just on weekends? What percentage are more studious?

Here's mine just in case anyone needs ideas:
Preference 1 Medical Care & Challenge-Hill HILL-10 Single room
Preference 2 Hill College House HILL-10 Single room
Preference 3 Ware College House WARE-20 Double room
Preference 4 Riepe College House RIEP-20 Double room
Preference 5 Hill College House HILL-20 Double room
Preference 6 Fisher Hassenfeld Col Hse FSHS-20 Double Room
Preference 7 Science & Tech Wing-Kings Ct/English KCEH-20 Double room
Preference 8 Freshman Experience-Harrison HARS-41 Quad apt (3BR/LR/kit)

hey bean001, just in case u didnt kno, if u put anything in the quad after the third choice, most likely its gone to waste. there's usually no space left in the quad after the 3rd round...

heres mine:
1) Ware-double
2) fisher-double
3) riepe-double
4) hill-double
5) harnwell-double (2br)
6) hamilton-double (2br)
7) harnwell-east asia-double (2br)

hmm...the freshman experience res. sounds cool.

yeah it does... I wish i knew about it before I sent my app in. oh well. I hope I get the quad.

OK...so i'm putting down fresh. experience ; but i want it as my 4th choice (after quad) - how do i do that? it keeps making it my first choice ; but i dont want that. can anyone help me?

you can't, res programs are always first (except the ones that might have extra slots at the end)

iggg. what are the odds that i'll end up in the res. program then?

Andy, thanks for the reminder, but I knew that. I don't actually want the quad :p My first choice is Hill and the rest are merely to fill up space because I don't want to end up at Gregory, Du Bois, or the high rises.

i dont think you will have a problem getting into hill

does anyone know anything about the Modern Languages Program or the Music Program? I kind of want to put them #3 and 4 on my preferences, but it seems like it can only be 1/2 or 7/8. can anyone please try to sway me either way??

Bump..............

Harpingchic, I heard that the Modern Languages Program is very intensive, which could be a pro or a con depending on your outlook. Good luck deciding!
