Regarding UCLA Linguistics and Psychology Requirements

Hello! This is my first post but I`ve been lurking around a bit lately.

Im a Chinese student from CCC and heres my situation. Following the Transfer Admission Guide from UCLA, the Ling Psych major requires:

2 years of a foreign language 1 year of a second foreign language introductory psychology Introductory Cognitive science

Courses I`ve Taken:
1 year of a Japanese
one semester of a Korean
Introductory psychology

According to my counselor, since my high school was taught in Chinese, I`m exempt from "2 years of a foreign language". I also fulfilled "1 year of a second foreign language" by the Japanese courses I took.

So my question...

Even though I've already fulfilled my language requirements, would it be better that I continue taking as many language classes as possible?

My CCC is now offering a new linguistics course. Would taking the course provide any advantages for me, even though the class is not required and I could take the class after starting my program at UCLA?

The linguistics psychology major also requires an introductory cognitive science course, but my CCC doesn’t offer a course with that name. Can the cognitive science requirements be satisfied by related classes such as psychology or philosophy?

Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated!

First off, congrats, it’s a great major. Basically no CCC offers cog sci. They will let that slide, don’t worry.

Re the language req., you’re Chinese and were at a Chineses school that taught classes in Mandarin (?). Was this in U.S. or out of country? Because if it were out of country I’m not sure they accept it.

If you were born and raised in America, with English as your main language - worse case, you would just have to take the language exam and pass Chinese that way.

Re: linguistics class, take it. It shows commitment to the major.

Thanks for your reply lindyk8. Yes, my high school was taught in Mandarin in my home country. Decided to take your advice and taking linguistics right now.
