So I’m a bit confused about this and I don’t have a lot of information. I got a call today from UCSD saying the usual, but my caller also mentioned Regents. Does this mean I’m automatically in to both the school and the program? I understand some schools have kids as Regents candidates first, before making the final selection for Regents scholars, so I just wanted to clarify what this means.
Other current threads suggest that the current phase of the 2015 UCSD calling campaign is targeting high achieving students like you who receive scholarships including the Regents Scholarship, “the most prestigious scholarship awarded to undergraduate students at the University of California.” Like you, my daughter was told this evening that she was admitted to UCSD and had been granted a Regents Scholarship.
As you know, some other UC campuses use different selection processes. UCB interviews candidates, and at least UCSC and UCLA require additional essays. UCSD, though, seems to simply say that if you’re in, you’re in.
Back when I was at UCSD, they just awarded the scholarships and didn’t have anything like “Regents candidates” first. They award them all automatically without any application process or anything, so I wouldn’t see the point of them have “candidates” first. I would imagine you have the Regents scholarship, but you can contact them to confirm or wait for an official confirmation.
