Im from NYC and i was wondering if regnets grades matter at all for princeton cuz ive gotten 2 80's.rest is all 90's including 2 100's/

Here are my Regents Grades

Math B-80
Earth Science-80
Biology-97

Physics -95

do thsese grades help me, hurt me or dont matter for a prestigous institutuin like princeton?

if you took them, they'll look at them
I think your earth science might hurt you

& most schools do look at math b a little leniently, but this is princeton so idk
goodluck =]

what are regents and are they only for NYC'ers?

no theyre only for people in ny state. theyre tetst we take after ocmpleting a course. and btw i toook the earth science in 8th grade and i got a 92 in the class both terms. somone respond.

What are your SAT I and II scores? I assume Princeton looks at everything on your transcript, but I expect these will play a very minor role in the decision. On first impression, scores below 90 in English and Math B are not going to help, but if your SAT I and II scores are better, it won't matter much.

its just for the exam and the average fo these exams is somehwere in the 60's (maybe 68-69). yea true sat's are pretty significant. so far i have taken bio M and gotten a 710. im gonna retake it after some studying over the summer, a sat 2 prep calss, and after 3 months of a.p bio.

Our findings are that outside of NY for the most part you don't give any additional weight for Regents classes. To them they don't add anything to the student if they even know what Regents is. Being a parent of a 3 children in NYS we know that regents rigor and difficulty can pretty much bring our courses to the same level of difficulty as upper levels in other states, but wasn't able to win that battle with any admissions people.

Having also had kids from NYS, my suggestion is you need to understand the facts and methodology as to how colleges will convert our percentage based marks in NY to GPA. There are numerous threads on this site and others that can explain that to you. Using a criteria that I think is typical for NY state schools of 80 is a B 90 is an A I calculated your core GPA for the marks that you have achieved at 3.6. I assumed your not taking AP or Honors but straight Regents. If you are you would get additional marks for those scores and your GPA will rise. Great work so far but they won't in my opinion get you into any IVY or other schools at the level. You need to focus if this is your goal on pulling A's across the board from now on.

As far as the Earth Science a 80 is a B and a B is a B, also I think it was early in your HS career. Looks to me like you are a better student now which is a big plus.

Your new marks to come look Great!!!!

that 80 in earth science was not even in hs. it was from an eigth grade accelerated class so middle school. the 80 in math is from sophmore year.

College, they will still count if they are on your transcript, but as I guessed they were early in your transcript. I don't believe they will bear much weight.

Check out the site at Princeton Review you can get alot of information and access yourself and your chances (safety, match, stretch) against schools across the country.

i have taken honors in hs Ray111.
honors chemistry, honors physics, honors english 5, honors trig

College, you will likely get extra weighting for those marks, most colleges add .5 to the final mark for an Honors course but it could vary. Check the web pages to confirm that they do.

so if i had a 92 itd be a 92.5. or if i had a 92 itd be considered a 4 and theyd add .5 to that so its 4.5? its the second one right.

yeah .

and if anything above a 90 is a 4 and .5 is given to honors and 1.0 to a.p's? then i basically have a 4.08 gpa. how does this rank toher applicants? or will colleges use the numerical average ( a 92) or the 4.08 gpa?

I actually hope the Regents don't count so much;
Something happened the day of my chem regents and I ended up getting a 79 (even though my final in my honors class was a 100 and A+)... I didn't bother to ask my counselor to explain it, because I figured schools outside of NY wouldn't care...
I hope it won't be a problem?

Junior they don't care about the final test, they just look at the final course mark. So the 100 is what will count. My D had a 94 in the class and then got a 72 also on the Chem test. You know that Math A, Math B and Chem are very tough tests because they count towards the Distinction diploma criteris so they are not easy tests.

Well the Math ones I did fine; idk what happened with Chem though. Oh well, apps are out, I can't do anything but wait until two more weeks. :-/

You could ask to see a copy of the transcript your HS sends to colleges. In our NY district, this is not the same as the report card you receive (which shows a breakdown for each quarter and for mid terms and finals and then a final grade). Our HS sends a transcript that shows one final grade for each course. I think the Regents exam scores are on there, but am not sure. I have heard that many colleges don't even know what NYS regents exams are, but now that every state has 'exit' exams (like MCAS in Massachusetts) they might be more aware. I wouldn't think it would override SAT scores, for example, because that's an exam that every applicant has taken so it's possible to directly compare students and students often take the exam more than once.

The best place to ask your question is the admissions office of a school you're interested in.
