How are they awarded? Do personal statements/rec letters/ECs weigh in or is it mostly/entirely based on stats?

What do you estimate the stat floor to be for receiving this scholarship from the colleges listed? Personal experiences/stats would be appreciated.

If test scores play a role, are the ACT and SAT considered equal? In other threads I always see people post their SAT but never their ACT scores. Are they both taken into consideration or only the one that is higher?

Not sure about UCD because none of my kids applied there but I think UCI and UCSB.
No, mostly on stats
SAT>2300+ and depends on major the GPA varies. I think my nephew and nieces, valedictorian but lower SAT, not sure exactly.
3.Not sure, only took the SAT.

Would a 32 Composite ACT and 4.0 unweighted be even remotely competitive at any of the above schools (plus UCSC, forgot to add that)? My transcript lists my “College GPA” as 4.33, but it’s missing the last two terms of my junior year so I expect it would be a little bit higher. I doubt I stand a chance at Davis and Irvine, but I still have a shred of hope for Santa Cruz and Santa Barabara.

I just don’t think it is something you can rely on. You can guess and analyize but you will never know until you get your letter. 4,75/5 (don’t recall UC gpa) 2050 got 10k at UCR, nothing at Irvine, UCLA, UCB but accepted.

My son was awarded the Regents Scholarship at UCD, UCSB, UCLA and UCB. For Davis and SB both colleges sent him a notice early letting him know of his award and his acceptance. I believe Davis offered him $8000/per year scholarship-this was not financial aid, SB was $6500/per year. In the end he choose Berkeley and that was $2500/year. Davis and SB did not require any interviews, letters of rec. He was just chosen from his original application. UCLA had him submit an extra essay in early Feb. Berkeley had him interview for it. Hope that helps.
His ACT was a 34, His SAT subject tests were 800-Math 2 and 790 Physics. He was 4th in his graduating class of 500 and we are CA residents.
