Regents Scholarship for Transfer Students?

Are there any transfer students here who received the Regents Scholarship?
And if so, what were your stats at CC/before transferring?

I read on their website that they award the top 4% of admitted transfers, but I’m not sure what the GPA range of that is…

I currently have a 3.86 GPA, and I’m expecting it to be raised to a 3.92 by the end of this semester. Do you think I have a chance to be a Regents Scholar?

I really need all the financial aid I can get to pay off the heavy price tag.

Thanks in advance.

I had a 4.0 at CC… I didn’t get it at first (though I did get it at UCLA). However in mid-summer Davis came through and gave it to me. Apparently Davis only gives out 14 or so regents scholarships to transfer students per year.

The minimum GPA required is 3.80. Make sure your letter of recommendation is really high quality—not just “great student, got an A in my classes” but talks about what you’ve done above and beyond doing well in class—and keep your GPA above 3.80, and you will have as good a chance at the regent’s scholarship as anyone. Compelling personal backgrounds seem to help as well but I have no way to quantify that perception.

I had a 4.0 GPA at CC but a lower GPA from my first college about five years before. Applied anyway just in case but was not awarded the regent’s. I did get a small ($1,500) scholarship right before school started but it was just kind of sneaky surprise here’s a scholarship, not sure if it was need based or merit based.

I received this scholarship from UCD. I had a 4.0 and a strong letter of recommendation. You want to make sure that you put a lot of effort into your personal statement and seek out a professor who can write you a letter of rec that is personal. Very few regents scholarships are awarded to transfer students, but you never know if you will be the one. Good luck!
