Regents Scholarship: How Much Money?

I was accepted into UCI with honors and the regent scholarship. There was not much information provided on the actual money that I would get.

My parents make an income over two hundred thousand, so I dont think I would qualify for financial aid. However they did fill out the FASFA so I guess there might be a chance? Especially since there my parents have a lot of other financial obligations.

So assume that I do not qualify for any financial aid, how much money will I get through Regents Scholarship?

Also, what is the difference between the Regents Scholarship and the Chancellor Scholarship? Which is more prestigious/selective? Which gives more money?

see post #6 in "UCI Regents for Class 2012"
$9000 for Regents, $7500 for Chancellors

Regents is more prestigious.

I think it's only $2500 this year. Significantly reduced because of credit problem.

For class of '11:

Regents paid 9k

Chancellors pays for full tuition ~ 8.4k

But apparently it has changed this year? Hopefully not; I was hoping for an influx of higher achieving students.

D was also accepted with Regents and CHP. In the list of benefits associated with the Regents program, there is another section entitled "Additional Scholarship Funds", with the following information: "Regents' Scholars who have financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), will receive additional scholarship funds to replace work or loan funds that would normally be offered to cover the need of resident students. The amount of the scholarship will be determined annually and will not exceed a maximum figure set each year by the University. To qualify for the need-based scholarship the scholar must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit all documents requested by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships by the published deadlines. Those who do not apply for financial aid will be considered for the honorarium only."

Has this been a benefit in years past? I am thinking that instead of giving a flat $9,000 to each scholar, they are doing away with loans and work study for those Regent Scholars with financial need.

Yes, I think that all the Regents Scholarships from all the UC campus's offer to replace loans and work-study for those who have financial need. The amount given to those who don't demonstrate financial need varies from campus to campus and year to year.

S received the Regent and CHP offer in the mail. The Regent scholarship is indeed $2500 per year this time with an additional $1000 for summer research or study for up to three summers. What a different a year made, from full tuition plus last year to $2500 this year.

^^ I know!!!!! =(
I was so happy that I got Regents because last year some of my international friends were able to go there because of Regents significant scholarship. I'm an international and apparently can't file a FAFSA, -_-
