UCI - Regents for class 2012

D received an email today about UCI Regents. UCI Decision is out.

^ Same here...D accepted with Regents and Campus Wide Honors

My D also accepted with Regents and CHP. What is the Chancellor's Scholarship?

I was accepted with Regents and Campuswide Honors.

What about the Chancellor's Scholarship?

For someone with no financial need, how much money can I expect with the Regents Scholarship?

i just got a boring email telling me the status of my application had been changed. i thought i was denied, then I checked the online status here: https://www.admissions.uci.edu:8443/cgi-bin/maa_uci.cgi, and bam! acceptance, and on the left, it mentions regent scholars or whatever.

Regents scholarship is $9000 and Chancellor is $7500. Not sure if this amount is current, I hope they factor in inflation.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-irvine/30375-regents.html

My daughter was also accepted into the honors program and regents scholar. She thought the Regents is $2500.?

Did you submit FAFSA already, or are these scholarships based on something else?
On my D's page there's no mention of any scholarships.

These are merit scholarships. I did not have to fill out any FAFSA for any school yet.
$9000 is what I heard from a father who have kids received Regents scholarships for 2007 and 2011. I think they give you more money if you go to summer school.

I read here that the Regent's scholarship is $9000, but this is what a link in my email said...

Regents' Scholars who do not apply for financial aid or do not have established financial need will receive a monetary honorarium of $2,500 per academic year. Scholars who maintain the stated academic requirements may renew the honorarium each year of their appointment.

So, who's right? I would be class of 2012, with parents earning around $200,000.

Thanks!

Where does it say Regents Scholarship? Because I'm looking at it and I don't see a thing. I guess I didn't get it?

But UCI baby! Woooohooo :D
Haha my mom was just like "no Berkeley?" and walked away >_> <3

Thanks for your reply Columbia_Student. That's what I've thought, a merit scholarship. BTW, congrats to everybody who's got it and who got in!

tcmzueck, it could be changing this year. Last year it was different, D has not checked for the exact amount yet. This year money could be tight, subprime mortage problem that affects all UCs. Anyway, it's the highest honors for admittance to UCI . I guess there is no chancellor scholarship than since the regents award is so small.

My daughter did not apply for financial aid so that may be the difference.

On the admissions email page, on the left hand side, it has a box that says, "You have been selected for" and lists Honors Program and Regents Scholar in smaller boxes below that. I think that my daughter checked and it said $2500 (I didn't see that page) so I think that would be the award if there was no request for financial aid.

I am class of '11 with a chancellors scholarship.

Chancellors pays for full tuition, which is about 8.4k this year.

Regents pays 9k regardless of financial situation.

If you guys are seriously considering UCI, make sure to do the stay over program with the honors program.

uhm. im ELC. and i have the grades and scores that rival/exceed many of the ppl posted with CHP and regents on here. i have gotten nothing - not even an acceptance.

do i have a shot at regents? i applied engineering, btw.

I think it is $2500 too.

Pengsta, my mom did that too.

Oh hmm, I got that email yesterday too that said my status changed.
I'm also in at UCI with Regents and CHP!
Yay, my first official college acceptance. :)

The Regent's Scholarships appears to be $2500 a year, but that might be because I don't have any financial need.

Shoefactory--since my daughter is in control of all the websites :). When is the stayover for the honors program? She got the invitation for early March, but unfortunately will be out of the state that weekend. Is that what you are talking about and if so, is there another opportunity to do that?

@patient:

You are referring to the honors experience day, which is march 8.

This is a quote from the CHP site directed towards current honors students that are considering being a stay over program host:

"The Stay-Over Program (SOP) at UC Irvine offers prospective students the chance to experience what college life is really like by sharing a typical day with a UCI student. Guests are paired with SOP hosts of the same gender according to major and interests indicated on the application.

We will sponsor two Stay-Over dates specifically for prospective CHP students on April 3rd and 10th (first two Thursdays of spring quarter). As a CHP host, you will guide these prospective students around UCI, take them to your classes, and introduce them to the CHP. Your willingness to share your experiences about UCI and the CHP is what makes this program a success!"

So basically the SOP is where the prospective CHP student comes and stays overnight at one of the halls, participates in activities, goes to classes to see what it's like, and gets a taste of what it feels like to be a CHP student at UCI.

So, it's April 3rd and 10th for CHP students (There is SOP for non-CHP students as well but there are no special planned activities and they are not paired with CHP students). I don't believe there is a place to apply yet as it is still almost 2 months away.

@aa: Applying engineering shouldn't matter. If your stats are better, you probably at least got Chancellors.
