Registering for Classes, Incoming freshmen

I'm a incoming freshmen class of 2015 and I had a few questions about how to register for classes. I understand that there is a pre-enrollment period in July but I'm wondering if we ever get to talk to an adviser about what classes we should take? and if we were thinking about switching majors how we could take classes in that new major.

Thanks

You can’t really meet with your adviser until Orientation Week rolls around. Until then, you’ll need to use pre-enrollment to get into certain classes before they fill. Your schedule is probably going to be based on your anticipated major, college distribution requirements, and your personal interests. All technical requirement information can be found on the websites of the major/college. As for switching majors, you’ll have to discuss that with your adviser when you can.

Thanks for answering! I also had the same question.
Also, approximately how many credits is recommended for freshmen (possibly involved with work study)?

By the way, we sign up for work study when school starts right?

That depends on what AP credits you have, as well as what college you’re in. I was a freshman CALS student the past year and I was restricted to 18 credits each semester. I took 16 and then 14 (not including PE) credits. People in CoE, though, have a higher ceiling for credits.

As for work study, it simply means you’re eligible for more jobs than most folks. Cornell does have a website for student jobs. It would be best to look into something during August.
